Activate WooCommerce, DK Base Plugin, and DK WC Cart Item Notes. Open DK Plugins > Cart Item Notes to edit the placeholder, choose eligible product categories, and select products to exclude.
Selected top-level categories include their children. Leave all categories unselected to allow notes for every physical product. Individual product exclusions take priority. Virtual products do not receive this field.
The classic WooCommerce cart displays a textarea beneath each eligible item's name. Its browser limit is 150 characters. Changes are saved to that cart line through AJAX and retained in the cart session.
The shared eligibility rules are also used by DK WC Live Orders when it creates notes order-item metadata. Changing categories or exclusions therefore affects that workflow too.
Check the completed order's item metadata when relying on storefront notes. The current checkout callback iterates the order-item object instead of reading the supplied cart-line values, so storefront-to-order transfer needs runtime verification and may require a separate plugin fix.
Use the classic cart: the field is attached to its PHP item-name hook and does not provide a Cart block integration. Check physical-product status, parent category membership, and product exclusions.
Refresh the cart after editing to confirm the session was updated. Check that the cart JavaScript and WooCommerce AJAX requests are working. A stale cart security token can prevent saving; reload the page and try again.
If the cart note persists but order metadata is missing, review the checkout limitation under Cart & Order Notes. Do not assume a cart textarea guarantees a saved order note.
